Impact Minute: Ready for the Weekend?
Todays Impact Minute:
Well, it is Friday at 3 p.m. and the weekend is quickly coming. Got any big plans? Reports to finish? Customer Presentation's to complete? Invoices to reconcile? Bills to Pay? E-mails that are way past due to respond to? Going into the office to get caught up (or in reality just less behind)?
As a business owner, you put a lot, and I mean A LOT, of time into your business. 8-5 doesn't mean anything to you because that is just the middle of your day. You start early, stay late and muscle through the weekend using that as bonus time to get the job done.
Just between you and me... Is it getting better or is the proverbial business treadmill just increasing in speed and you are just running harder to try not to fall while juggling all the balls you have in there air?
Is this the business life you envisioned?
What if it could be more? More balanced? More structured? More impactful?
Every business owner faces the decision point where there is just not enough time in the day to get things done. There are not enough weekends, evenings or other times that can be borrowed from to meet the need. Here is a simple, yet impactful exercise for you.
Take your schedule/calendar from last week and calculate the amount of time you spent in the following three buckets (Rest, Personal, Work). Once you have this divide the number of hours by 168 hours (the number of hours in a week) and see what the percentages are for each bucket. Where is your biggest investment?
Now, think of your time just like your retirement account. Do you invest everything in one stock? (Yep, I did and it did great until the market took a dump) Your time should also be diversified too. Rest is critical for your body (and sanity) as well as time away from work also gives your mind time to clear.
My two questions to you today: "What is the proper allocation for your time across the three buckets?" and "What would it be the impact to you and your family if you had a better allocation of your investment?
If you think it is time to reallocate some of your time investment to increase the rate of return I would like to talk with you because doing the same thing over and over is not going to deliver a different result.
Let's make that change starting today!
